Suggested Reading | Wake Refill Knowledge Exchange

We are starting a book club and calling it The Wake Refill Knowledge Exchange. Starting at the end of this month we will be partnering with Carolina Ocean Alliance and The MARSH Project to provide inspiring texts for you to take home from the shop at 37 Cleveland St.

How it works: pay $20 deposit on your first book and exchange the book indefinitely until you've read to your hearts desire. When you are done with the last title, return it for a $20 credit off your Wake Refill purchases!

Each organization is picking their favorite texts for you. Here are some of our favorites that you can look forward to.

All We Can Save (Wake Refill Pick)

The book brings together essays, poems, and stories from a diverse range of  writers, scientists, activists, and leaders who are engaged in the fight against climate change. The collection offers a multifaceted exploration of the climate crisis, emphasizing not just the scale of the problem, but also the solutions that are already being implemented and the hope that can be found in collective action.

Braiding Sweetgrass (Carolina Ocean Alliance Pick)

A profound and beautifully written exploration of the intersection between Indigenous wisdom, ecological science, and the deep, reciprocal relationship humans can have with the natural world. Kimmerer, a botanist and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, weaves together personal anecdotes, Indigenous stories, and scientific research to offer a compelling narrative about the healing power of nature, the importance of gratitude, and the ways in which we can restore balance with the Earth.

Nature's Best Hope (The MARSH Project Pick)

A compelling call to action for rethinking how we approach conservation. Tallamy, an entomologist and professor, argues that traditional conservation efforts have been too focused on distant wilderness areas and large-scale protected lands, while the most immediate and effective opportunity for preserving biodiversity lies in our own backyards and local communities.

We hope you will enjoy these titles and look forward to offering them on loan at Wake Refill. Can't wait? Check your local library or community book shop before adding to cart online.
