A Place to Gather
Wake found her home and we cannot wait to gather with you at 37 Cleveland St Unit 101 (the corner of Rutledge and Cleveland)!
Our desire for Wake has always been for it to be a place to gather with our Charleston community to cultivate ideas and inspiration. We hold a deep conviction that in the age of self-checkouts and prime shipping, what society gains in "convenience" it looses in connection. We've been reading a lot about third spaces and the village affect, and we draw a lot of inspiration from the idea that face-to-face interaction can make our culture happier, less polarized, and more prone towards hope.
When we started our search for a brick-and-mortar last year, it was important to us that we found not only a storefront conducive to business but also a space to invite our neighbors in to engage with us and each other. To find shelf space is simple, to foster community takes more intention, and so the search was lengthy and involved.
However, sometimes things are just meant to be! When we were made aware of an opening at the corner of Rutledge and Cleveland, across the street from Hampton Park, we knew that was where we HAD to be. The building itself is an old local pharmacy being restored and will be occupied by many local businesses. We could not have asked for better neighbors and we see the proximity to the park as an opportunity to organize workshops and events in the public space. It really is a dream come true.
The building is under construction, but we expect it to be ready this summer. Grand opening announcement to come as soon as we have a date.
Thank you so much for making waves with us! We are beyond grateful. See you soon, BYOC!
xoxo,
